Jake As you know, we met 'Gus' in Fargo on July 3rd. He was able to come home with us that day, and we must say he has been a perfect fit. We changed his name from Jake to Gus because our daughter had a chocolate lab named Jake. He learned his name quickly, and his adjustment to his new home and surroundings has been quick and easy, too. We live on a small acreage near Watertown, SD. Although Gus lives in our home with us, he loves to be outside with me exploring the area. We have no other pets, but our neighbors do. He has become good friends with the neighbor's dogs and cats. Gus just loves everyone and every animal. He's even having a 'through the fence' bromance with a 1200 pound steer next door. Both Gus and the steer meet at the fence, stick their noses through the fence and lick each other. When we adopted Gus, he was very thin. His foster family indicated that he was a stray. Gus eats well - we feed him 'Call of the Wild' dog food. He has gained weight, has a shinny coat and is healthy in every way. We had an appointment with our veterinarian for a thorough check-up and Gus is doing well. No one knows for sure how old Gus is - we think he's a mature boy. We decided he should be 5 years old with his birthday on July 3rd - the day he came home with us! Gus is the perfect pet. He knows all his commands, is completely house-broken, is extremely gentle with adults, children and other animals. He has displayed no aggressive behaviors. He likes to be near us all the time. When we're in the family room - so is Gus. When we're making dinner, Gus is in the kitchen, too. When Carol is in her office, Gus is curled up under her desk (quite a sight for a nearly 100 pound lab) or lying by her chair. Gus goes where we go. This past weekend we visited friends at their cabin near Fergus Falls, MN. Gus loved the trip, loved the cabin, and loved the extra attention. In short - we love our chocolate lab, Gus. We are so fortunate that we met Gus through Diamond in the Ruff. We also appreciate how thorough your adoption process is. These rescue pets deserve loving caring homes. Thank you for allowing us to be part of Diamond in the Ruff adoptions. We love our dog! Sincerely, Ron & Carol Bergan |
