Foster Home Feedback:
3/16/2016

Copper is finishing his stay with a trainer in Minneapolis. He has been working on his resource guarding issues while at a boarding and training facility. He has been doing excellent and has been around children, other dogs, strangers, and is doing much better with resource issues.

Copper needs a foster home who can continue his training in a group setting. Copper will need a foster home who does not have small children and can monitor the resources he has around other animals.

Copper is a 4 month old adorable little boy.  He is super curious and loves to be involved in everything people do.  He has all of his vaccines and is scheduled to be neutered and microchipped in a week.

People:  Copper is currently most comfortable with women and children.  He is a little anxious and scared of men until he gets to know them.  He will bark at strangers and be protective but he is not aggressive, it seems to be fear based so we are working on building his confidence and doing lots and lots of socializing so he can be more comfortable around everyone he meets.

Animals:  He does well with dogs and cats.  He has some food guarding issues with other food guarding dogs so he will either need training on that or be in a home with submissive dogs.  His foster family is currently feeding the 2 dogs in a separate room to avoid any problems.  The dogs will play together fine the rest of the time. Copper is very vocal during the wrestling and tug of war play sessions with the other dog. He will bark & growl while he plays.

Kenneling: Copper has never been kenneled.  His prior home was with a stay at home Mom and children so he is not used to being kenneled or alone.  He does have some separation anxiety if his foster Mom leaves the room.  When put in a kennel for a short period of time once he barked nonstop.  He is currently going to work with his foster Mom and sleeping through the night in bed with her. He is very loyal and protective with his humans.

Training: He picked up potty training super fast! His foster family was extremely impressed with him.  He learned to whine or jingle the bell on the door within a day and has not been having any accidents.  He has also learned to sit and go into a down from the sit position very quickly.  He is a puppy who likes to have things to do. He will play fetch with toys and bones and bring them back to the person.  He likes to chew bones and follow his people around to help out.  He seemed unfamiliar with walks and car rides so he is learning that they are not so scary and can be fun! His anxiety is less and less everyday with these activities.  He would benefit greatly from an obedience class and continued training to build his confidence with new people and things.
