Foster Home Feedback: 01/23/15 Vivy has really settled in and adjusted way better than we thought she would. Vivy knows where the door is and will sit and whine to go outside. She goes up and down the stairs to get outside without any issues and has traveled down and up the stairs in our home with ease. She is able to find the couch and bed and hops on and off of them without any issues. Vivy LOVES to cuddle. Her ideal home would be a place where she could be a lap dog and snuggle. She has warmed up to the other furry members of the household and will snuggle with the other dogs. She went to the vet on 01/23/15, was spayed and had her eyes rechecked and we will continue to monitor them. She is on eye drops for one eye currently. Her eye pressures looked good. Her ears have also come a long way. She is on another round of medication to continue clearing her chronic infection. While she was under for her spay, she got a dental and needed a few teeth extractions. She is putting on weight nicely, but still needs to gain a few points.
Vivy is a GREAT dog who doesn’t let her disability hold her down! We hope she is able to find her forever home soon where she can be treated like the princess she is! 1/6/15 We have some updates on Miss Vivy. She saw our friends at Dakota Vet Clinic right away on Monday. They confirmed she is completely blind. Luckily, her eyes do not appear to be painful and their pressures are ok, so they should not need to come out anytime soon. This could be a potential complication in the future if things change. Her ears were in terrible condition. They flushed them out with a medicated solution and placed a special wax in them that will stay for the next week until her follow up appointment. She is underweight and needs to gain 3-4lbs. She hasn't had much interest in food since her arrival which we are linking to her teeth and the stress of all these new changes. She will be spayed in two weeks and they will do a dental while she is under and extract any teeth that need to come out and clean all the others. Vivy also had her toenails trimmed again, as when she came in the ones on her back paws were spiraling into her pads. You may be wondering what kind of a home a blind dog needs. The good news is, she can go pretty much anywhere! We have seen her navigate the stairs of her foster home and she almost knows her way around. They suggest making rooms different smells so the animal is able to better locate where they are at. Things like a bubbling water dish can also help them hear where their food and water are. Some people use carpet runners so the animal gets used to a path, but this isn't a must. You can add more "jingly" collars to other animals in the house to help her locate when animals are near. It is suggested you talk to her before you pet her, and have other people do the same so she isn't startled. You will have to block off any stairs in your home until she gets used to them. Vivy appears potty trained. We believe she will eventually be dog friendly. She seems very scared right now and is started when other animals are near her and will growl. She has been poked and prodded by multiple people since her arrival and seems to LOVE people. She enjoys cuddling on your lap and doesn't make a peep while there. We do not suggest homes with small children for her as they will likely startle her too much. We hope Vivy finds a home soon. It is clear that she was neglected before she came to us. She deserves someone to spoil her for the rest of her years!
